Seong would've worked for his invite. He would've put in effort to spend the night with his boyfriend. But not too much effort that be might come off as desperate to be in Matthias' company. That's exactly what he's been trying to avoid, after all. Don't let Matthias know just how deep Seong is into this relationship already. Don't let him know that he regularly craves Matthias' company. Seong is sure there has to be something wrong with him (himself. Not Matthias. Oh, definitely not Matthias) and he'd like to keep that to himself for as long as possible.
So Seong would put in the effort but he's glad he doesn't have to. He doesn't want to have to figure out where the line is between enough and too much.
Pausing for a moment in his own eating, Seong watches Matthias' entire reaction to his admission about the cooking. The changes in his expression and the way he outwardly expresses his enthusiasm. Not only does it make Seong feel pretty good about himself, but it makes Matthias seem just that much more attractive. So much so that it takes a significant amount of time for Seong to realize he's simply staring at the other man. He has to remind himself that this is the point in a conversation where he says something in return, or has any kind of reaction at all. Something. He settles for nodding. At least to begin with. It's a good start.
"Good. Otherwise, how do you feel about being kicked out of your own kitchen?" he jokes with a grin of his own. Perfect response. He knew he had it in him.
"Maybe that's why we seem to work pretty well." So far. "You're barely a person but I don't really get along with many people anyway." So he's the right amount of person for Seong.
Oh, but there's so much wrong with Matthias. Seong just hasn't been around long enough to see any of it yet. And whatever's wrong with Seong? Matthias will probably find it interesting, at least for a little while. It's always interesting for a little while.
Every living being needs nourishment, in some form or another. And while Matthias doesn't need to eat in the way humans do to survive, he knows what feasting with another means. He understands the significance of it long forgotten by humans. Cooking for another is helping them live. It's special. That's why Matthias is so enthusiastic about it. Why he's so careful (and will continue to be careful) to avoid any food stuffs that would harm Seong.
And if he minds that Seong goes silent to stare at him, he makes no indication of if. The brightness of his smile softens, but it doesn't fade entirely as he just peers at Seong, waiting patiently for him to speak. The break in chatting isn't any bother to him. Matthias is a creature that can and does enjoy silence. Every moment doesn't have to be filled with conversation. Nor does he find the pause (or the staring) awkward.
And when Seong finally does speak again, Matthias laughs. "You wouldn't dare!" As if Matthias could be kicked out of his own kitchen!
"Mmm," he nods in agreement. Seong doesn't seem like most of the people Matthias has met. There's something different about him that the demon can't quite put his finger on. But whatever it is, he likes it.
Sure, it's likely that there's something wrong with Matthias since he's with Seong and Seong is a mess, but he's not seen much real evidence of it yet. If it's there, Seong needs to see it to believe it. Logically, he knows that no one is perfect and that obviously applies to Matthias as well, but logic has no place anywhere in Seong's mind when he's with Matthias.
Seong gathers up some of the mushrooms and peppers onto his fork to have some of them without the pasta interfering, and he smiles to himself as he chews them. While he may not truly grasp the overall significance of eating together, he knows what it means to him. To get to share a meal with someone he cares about, that was prepared by that same person means a lot to him. It feels special. It makes him feel special. A meal prepared with him in mind and one that doesn't make him feel like his dietary restrictions are a burden. It makes him feel special.
And he wants Matthias to feel special too. He wants to return the favour by cooking for him too. Something that he's never done for anyone and never wanted to do for anyone.
Just Matthias.
"I would," he says after swallowing his food, lifting his chin a little defiantly. As if Seong would even try to kick Matthias out of his own kitchen. As if Seong would try to kick Matthias out of anywhere.
"You've got some balls threatening to kick me out of my own kitchen," he quips with a laugh. "The first time you're in my house, too! The gall of you!" But he's so entertained. Already, inviting Seong over is turning out to be fun.
That Seong feels like cooking and sharing meals is a way for them to bond is enough for Matthias. It's a significant thing to share and Matthias does, in fact, feel special that he's the first person Seong's wanted to cook for. Even if Seong made him instant noodles, he'd be content with it.
In retaliation for Seong's 'offense', Matthias stabs his fork into the other's plate and swirls some of the pasta onto it, holding it up to Seong's lips.
"It'll be my kitchen tomorrow morning," he counters with a laugh of his own. A bold claim, perhaps, but bold has been working for him so far this evening. Well bold in comparison to past actions. Bold in comparison to the way he's been otherwise tiptoeing through this whole relationship so far. Though, to be fair, claiming (temporary) ownership and threatening to kick them out of it upon first visit their home is pretty up there.
Even though he'd never actually kick Matthias out of anywhere, and he'll be disappointed if Matthias actually gives Seong enough space to be completely out of his way. He's sure he can work around having his boyfriend in the kitchen with him. And if he can't, he's not above making those instant noodles as a back up.
Seong looks down at his plate, ready to act affronted by Matthias stealing food right off of his plate when that very same food is held up to his mouth. His eyes drop to the food for mere seconds before returning to their rightful position, watching Matthias. Though at least this time his staring his accompanied by pulling the pasta off of the fork.
The mirth doesn't fade from his eyes, but an eyebrow shoots up. "Your kitchen? Since when are you paying my rent?" Matthias doesn't pay rent, thanks to a very handy suggestive ability. He can afford to, he just opts not to. There are perks to being an inhuman thing and he likes to take advantage of them.
But he can't repress another laugh.
"Actually, I'm looking forward to have my own personal chef tomorrow." There's enough room for the two of them to dance around each other in the kitchen. Or for Matthias to be affixed to Seong's back. Or maybe he'll be a very good boy and perch himself a the breakfast bar and watch Seong work from a safe distance. They'll know which mood strikes Matthias tomorrow.
Seong sets his fork down and reaches out to trace that raised eyebrow with his index finger, grinning around the food in his mouth. He chews it up and swallows, shrugging one shoulder. "My kitchen. For as long as I'm cooking. I guess you can consider breakfast tomorrow as my rent payment." If only Seong could actually get away with trading breakfast for a place to live. Or trade anything aside from money for a place to live.
But his roommate isn't home enough for him to cook for her instead of paying rent. Not that he can cook much anymore. And sleeping with her didn't work for either of them, so money it is.
"Only tomorrow. Though depending on how it goes, we can negotiate a repeat performance." If he doesn't completely embarrass himself and Matthias actually likes what he cooks, Seong would be willing to do it again. He would be willing to do a lot for Matthias (including letting him attach himself to Seong while Seong makes a valiant effort to make them breakfast in the morning).
Seong will end up spending more and more of his free time here, with Matthias. Matthias is sure of that. Because Seong wants to be near him and he wants the same. It all works out. So maybe there will be more dinners and breakfasts and opportunities to cook for each other (or -- GASP! -- together!).
The look on Matthias' face shifts from the mirth he felt moments before to something more... seductive.
Seong would like to spend more and more of his free time here (as well any time he spends working when he's not expected to actually go in and see people face to face. Maybe he'll float the idea of bringing his laptop with him at some point in the future so he can work here) but that's up to Matthias in the end. Does he want Seong invading his space more and more often or does he want his space to remain mostly his own? Does he want to keep his place as somewhere he can get a break from his needy boyfriend, only letting Seong come here occasionally? He knows what he hopes for, but it's up to Matthias.
He'd love to spend more time here though. Getting to know one another better by just being near each other. Sharing meals and cooking for one another. Maybe Matthias could even teach him a few things by allowing Seong to cook alongside him.
As Matthias' expression shifts, Seong's hand falls from the man's eyebrow to his shoulder. He sucks in a quick breath then exhales slowly. The things this man can do to him with nothing more than a simple change in expression should be studied. It's incredible.
"Good," he purrs, leaning in closer to brush his lips lightly against Seong's. "I'm not happy without my dessert." Settling back into his own space, Matthias make a show of licking his lips to taste the flavors of garlic and oil lingering there.
"Would you be surprised to find out I hoped you'd want to spend the night here with me?"
"Well, I don't want you to be unhappy," he responds, his voice barely more than a whisper as he watches Matthias settle back into his own spot on the couch. A spot that Seong wants to occupy as well. The want to set their food aside and crawl into Matthias' lap is incredibly strong, but not strong enough that he can't behave and keep himself parked right where he is. Besides, he doesn't want to seem ungrateful for this delicious meal that Matthias prepared for him. In fact he plans on spending much of the night showing Matthias just how grateful he is and just how much he appreciates it. "Besides, what's dinner without dessert, right?"
Seong chews on his bottom lip as he considers Matthias' question, then nods his head soon after. "Yeah, actually."
"Why?" Why should Seong be surprised that Matthias hungers for him? For his companionship? Hasn't he shown that already? That he can't get enough of Seong? Well, they're still new to each other, so Matthias supposes maybe there's some doubt whether that passion will remain. Even Matthias isn't sure how long it might last. Real fire like this can seldom be sustained. But Matthias is one hell of an actor.
For now, though, at least for now, it's all real.
"Don't you know you're my favorite?" His favorite person? His favorite dessert?
"I don't know. I guess I thought maybe you'd want to spend the evening with me, but you'd want the rest of the night to yourself." He shrugs his shoulders and has a sip from his glass. He's not exactly surprised that Matthias hungers for him, it's that his hunger is so consistent. There's no end to it and that's a little surprising. There's been no point yet where it's died down a little only to flare up again. There's been no time yet where Matthias has needed time away from Seong just to build up his want and desire again.
Which means he's waiting for it to die out very suddenly and very completely. All at once. Matthias will get burnt out on Seong eventually.
For now, though, Matthias wants him to spend the night. He wants to have breakfast with him in the morning. For now, he's Matthias' favourite.
"I know that now." And that knowledge makes him smile. He's Matthias' favourite.
"I probably should've mentioned that so you could've brought something to sleep in. You can borrow something of mine if you want." Or sleep in nothing. It's not like there will be that much sleeping.
Normally, it's just company that Matthias wants. Someone, anyone so he isn't bored. There's something different about Seong. It's not just anyone who's company Matthias craves: it's Seong's.
Seong opens his mouth, about to assure Matthias that it's fine because he can just sleep in these clothes (though given Matthias' recent question, will he have all that much need for clothes tonight?), but Matthias mentions his own clothes and it stops Seong in his tracks. The idea of getting to wear Matthias' clothes is... well, it's kind of hot, actually. Seong gives his head a quick nod. "No, it's okay. I'm sure we can figure it out." If it was really actually an issue, Seong could always just run downstairs and grab some clothes. It isn't like he lives far. But now that he's here, he doesn't want to leave before he has to, so bringing it up as an option is pretty far down the list.
Whereas Matthias normally wants any company, it's normally solitude that Seong craves. Despite his strong desire to keep himself from getting lonely, he so often prefers to be alone. It never really felt like it made sense to him until now. He didn't want to be lonely, but he only wanted the company of one specific person and it was Matthias.
No, leaving is out of the question now that he's agreed to stay the night. Matthias won't allow it. There are plenty of other options than Seong walking out the door. Even if he will be walking directly back in it. No, he can just stay and let Matthias wrap him up in his sheets and his clothes and his affections. That will be fine for both of them.
"Mmhmm," he purrs, leaning in just quickly enough to steal a quick kiss. "We'll figure it out."
Leaving is the last thing that Seong wants to do. It's an option (little does he know but it's not an option. Not according to Matthias) but not one he wants to explore. He doesn't want to leave now when he finally gets to be pressed in close to Matthias. After hours of waiting (working) he finally gets to be where he belongs. He doesn't even want to leave tomorrow but he supposes he'll have to go home eventually. He'll have to give his boyfriend his apartment and privacy back. For now though, Seong is already fully wrapped himself up in Matthias so why not his sheets and his clothes and his affection? He's only too happy to stay here and get wrapped up in the warmth and heat of his Matthias.
Oh but that quick kiss is a little too quick. A small pout is accompanied by a quiet, disappointed huff. He looks over at Matthias or more specifically he looks at Matthias' lips while running his tongue over his own. He wants to go in for another kiss but it's a trap and he can't keep falling for it. Trading quick kisses while prolonging their supper. Letting their food get cold. Delaying them getting to continue past this point in their evening together.
"We can't figure it out until you stop distracting me and let me eat," he mutters, shoving a forkful of food into his mouth as though to make his point.
Matthias knows exactly what he's doing. He tastes the want in every little kiss, feels it in the way Seong's eyes linger, sees it in his equal parts adorable and sultry pout. If only Seong realized the things his mouth brings to Matthias' mind so often. Well, he probably could. Matthias isn't subtle once he's decided on someone.
If Seong really thought about it, surely he would realize the sorts of things his mouth calls to Matthias' mind. He's definitely not exactly subtle, though too often Seong thinks that maybe the lack of subtlety he's seeing in Matthias is just him seeing what he wants to see which results in things like Seong being surprised that Matthias actually wanted him to stay the night.
A mistake he'll try to correct.
With zero hesitation, Seong nods his head. Very enthusiastically, Seong nods his head. He quickly chews and swallows his mouthful of food then gathers up some more, ready for his next bite. "You're very distracting." He watches Matthias out of the corner of his eye as he pulls the pasta off of the fork and grabs more. He's determined, now, to get this food down in a timely manner before Matthias starts to pull too much of his attention away again.
"You distract me even when we're not together," he mumbles around the food in his mouth. He has the scant few sentences he managed to write as proof of just how distracting Matthias can be. Does Matthias even know just how much space he takes up in Seong's mind, and just how many of his thoughts he occupies? Seong certainly hopes not. Those are the sorts of things that he's been trying to keep to himself.
"Do I?" He croons, all innocent curiosity. He lets his eyes linger on Seong's mouth as he shoves bite after bite into it, then drags his eyes up to meat the young man's. More slowly than Seong, Matthias swirls some pasta around his fork and pull the bite to his mouth.
Seong nods his confirmation, chewing his food slowly as he watches the way Matthias' eyes move. From his mouth to his eyes. It's almost enough to make Seong self-conscious. Almost. Were it anyone else looking at him like that, it would. It would make him wonder what's wrong with him, what they're seeing that he isn't aware of. But with Matthias, that feeling disappears before it ever really has the chance to become something substantial. When Matthias' eyes linger around his face, Seong feels desirable. And like he's the only other person in the world.
It's such an addicting feeling.
One last bite of food, then he leans forward to set his plate down on the coffee table, washing it down with the remainder of the wine in his glass. Settling back in next to the other man, he wipes some of the oil from his lips with his hand and then starts to toy with the hem of his shirt.
That's a practiced skill Matthias has honed over the years. He has the sort of gaze that makes people feel like he could see only them among thousands. And, to some degree, that's real. Once someone's become his fixation, no one else matters. But with Seong he doesn't have to consciously make that effort. When those inky eyes fall on him, Seong's all he sees. All he wants to see. This building could crumble around them right now and his attention would still be intently fixed on Seong. Nothing else.
It's with so much absentness that Matthias feeds himself. It's all automatic, the way he way he twirls the pasta onto his fork and stuffs bite after bite into his mouth while he waits for a more satisfying answer to his question than Seong provides.
Seong shifts a little to lay his head on Matthias' shoulder, trying to remove himself from the more direct line of sight. It doesn't help, though. It doesn't stop the intensity of Matthias' eyes on him. It doesn't stop the way that heavy gaze makes the rest of the world drop away, leaving just the two of them in it. That addicting, intoxicating gaze. Seong turns his own attention to Matthias' plate, watching the way his boyfriend twirls the fork to gather up some of the pasta. He watches his hand, the way the muscles and tendons move together just under his skin. Flexing and contracting in a way that makes Seong's heart beat just a little faster. A reminder of how those hands feel and what's they're capable of. A reminder of the things they can do to him.
"You're the only one who says it right," he muses to himself before sliding down to claim a small piece of Matthias' thigh for his head. Just enough to lay with his head in Matthias' lap, not enough to get in the way of his eating. "I think a lot about your voice. Like, the sweet way you usually sound when you talk to me and especially when you say my name. The mischievous tone you have when you're about to suggest we do something that most people would say we shouldn't. The aggressive, sometimes growly way you sound when you're really horny. I hear your moans while I'm asleep."
That's enough. He should stop.
"Tonight, I got basically no work done because I couldn't stop thinking about coming up here to see you. I only managed five sentences I mostly didn't hate for my article. Managed to write a pretty big paragraph about how good it feels when you fuck me so hard that I forget where I am. Some of the best writing I've done in recent memory. I also couldn't stop imagining what we'd do tonight when I came up to see you. Would we just have supper and then I'd go home? Would you come home with me? Would I stay here for a few hours and we'd talk? Maybe we'd have sex and you'd send me home afterwards. Or spend the entire night fucking until one or both of us passes out. Watch a movie and cuddle on the couch? How would you look tonight? How would you be dressed and how would your hair be styled? What would you smell like? What would you taste like?"
He should've made an itemized list in his head. He should've gone into this more prepared. He shouldn't have allowed himself to just talk. One too many glasses of wine, perhaps. So is this when Matthias realizes that Seong is a mistake and kicks him out? Is this when Matthias realizes that Seong is just a little too much?
"Stuff like that." Seong sits back up to return to toying with the hem of his shirt before softly repeating, "I just think about you a lot."
Matthias hums, hanging on every word. It's like a drug listening to all the little and big way he occupies Seong's thoughts. He absolutely shouldn't have made an itemized list. It's better off the cuff like this. While he continues, Matthias cants his head just enough to rest his cheek against Seong's hair.
Once Seong moves, Matthias goes back to finishing his plate, as if Seong hadn't shared a vulnerable moment.
"I say it right because it's important." He could just as easily say it wrong, pronounce it just like everyone else. But isn't saying it right one of the first things that helped them together? It's special, even to Matthias.
"If you want to write fiction about us, maybe you should moonlight doing that. I hear a lot of people make decent money self-publishing smutty stories and books. I'll help you come up with material."
Seong lays his head on Matthias' shoulder again. Sorry, he's anxiously fidgeting. He just gave Matthias a glimpse of what he thinks about and now he's waiting to be told it's time for him to go. He went too big, too quickly. It was a poor choice. He should have kept a better grip on his own thoughts and not let them come tumbling out of his mouth and the gentlest of urging.
But it doesn't come. What Seong's been worrying about, anxious about, what he's been bracing himself for never comes. Matthias makes no mention of it. He just moves past it. Seong relaxes against Matthias. It could still come, he could still be asked to leave, but for now, he lets himself relax.
"It is important. That's why I appreciate it." It lead them to where they are today. A mistakenly grabbed coffee order and Matthias asking Seong how his name is pronounced instead of just deciding some wrong pronunciation is the correct one. It's important. It's important to Seong and it makes Seong feel important to Matthias.
"I couldn't actually do that," he mutters quietly, though he abruptly sits up straight and turns to face Matthias. "Could I? I really do like writing about us." Are his cheeks red? It feels like his cheeks are turning red.
"If I do it and it takes off, I might need a lot of help from you for fresh material. Are you sure you're up for it?"

So Seong would put in the effort but he's glad he doesn't have to. He doesn't want to have to figure out where the line is between enough and too much.

It's with so much absentness that Matthias feeds himself. It's all automatic, the way he way he twirls the pasta onto his fork and stuffs bite after bite into his mouth while he waits for a more satisfying answer to his question than Seong provides.
And then getting all shy!
How could Matthias ever notice anyone but him?
"What specifically, Seong?"
